The Institute for K-Democracy Studies of Kyungnam University (KU) held its ‘1st National Academic Conference’ on Friday, October 13th in the international conference room of the Main Building of KU. The theme of this academic conference, in line with the institute's founding purpose, was “The Success and Challenges of Long-Term Division and the Armistice System in Korean Democracy” in commemoration of the 70th anniversaries of the Korean War Armistice Agreement and the ROK-US alliance.
On the following day, the 14th, all of the presenters and discussants embarked on a field trip to historical sites related to the ‘Nakdong River-Masan Defensive Battle’ and ‘The Democratization Movement in Masan and Changwon City.’ KU, as a school that played a pivotal role in the May 15th Movement and the June Uprising, established the Institute for K-Democracy Studies of KU in May this year. KU has been conducting research into successful democratization processes and exploring alternative solutions to the current challenges facing Korean democracy.
