Siberia is an endless stretch of snowfields, frozen silence, and wind that cuts through flesh. To many, this harsh land symbolizes suffering and despair. Yet, the Russian writer Anton Chekhov discovered a glimmer of warmth and hope even in that challenging environment. We often seek happiness in external things, believing life can be satisfying only when we have a good home, a stable job, and harmonious relationships. But even when all those conditions are met, the heart can still feel empty and hollow. Conversely, those who live modestly yet remain in harmony with nature and maintain strong community bonds know how to rejoice in life’s small moments. For example, villagers in tiny farming communities in Southeast Asia and indigenous peoples of the Amazon, though living in modest conditions, work together, help one another, and find
peace and joy in a life attuned to nature.

Their examples remind us that happiness does not come from our surroundings, but from our perspective and attitude toward life. Even in harsh environments, such as Siberia, people can
still find joy. Happiness is not something to wait for in special moments; it blossoms in the small crevices of everyday life.

In the midst of imperfect days, when we fill our hearts with gratitude and smiles, we are already living within happiness. Just as Chekhov found warmth in Siberia, we too can discover joy in ordinary moments. Happiness is not far away; it quietly stays beside us, always near.
