The legendary conqueror who built the Mongol Empire, Genghis Khan, achieved his vast dominion through remarkable unity. Perhaps offering insight into this achievement is one of his famous sayings: “One arrow alone can be easily broken but many arrows are indestructible.”

In today’s world, where individualism and competition have become everyday norms, this saying raises an important and timely question. While self-reliance and independence are often viewed as virtues, many people now live in isolation and anxiety. Personal struggles inevitably reach their limits, and asking for help is too often misunderstood as a sign of weakness.

Genghis Khan emphasized the power of togetherness. The simple truth, that one arrow can be easily broken, but a bundle of arrows bound together cannot, clearly illustrates the value of community and the strength found in solidarity.

In this sense, the way to avoid being “broken” is simple: lean on one another, stand together, and stay connected.

The problem is that many people live forgetting this simple truth. Under the pressure of “being okay alone,” more and more individuals break under that weight. This struggle stems from a societal climate where people are afraid of forming connections and view dependence as something shameful. Thus, the question that confronts us today is a clear one: Who are we connected to, and whose side are we standing on?

True strength is not realized in isolation, but through connection. It is this kind of collective resilience that may offer the most realistic path to navigating the greater uncertainties that lie ahead.
