“If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
As we know, a rainbow often appears after the rain, making it seem like the sky is willing to endure some cloudy times just so it can meet the rainbow and its beautiful colors. Dolly Parton, an American country singer, once said, “If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” Could this quote suggest that we should endure hardships—our rainy days—to achieve success, or find our rainbow?
It might sound a bit aggressive to people who love rain, but it is a fact that rainy imagery often pertains to negative feelings such as anger, sadness, and even gloom. However, after we overcome those negative feelings and getthrough our hard times, the good times—when a beautiful rainbow appears—are sure to come. When that happens, we can find ourselves smiling happily again, having quickly forgotten the struggles that we once encountered.
Due to various reasons, we sometimes feel as if we are standing under a neverendingcold rain without any umbrella. However, by drawing on our own strengths and motivation, we can overcome the storm and bear witness to a rainbow. The greatest rainbow in the sky is the one made from our dreams. To make the rainbow named “dream” appear, we must strive to be self-confident and progress toward our goals, even when encountering the harsh rain.
At times, the rain represents hardship, and the rainbow represents success. In this way, they are two sides of the same coin. Just as the rainbow appears even more beautiful following the rain, our successes and achievements shine more brightly because we struggled through hardships to reach them. So, let’s not feel intimidated by freezing rain showers and eye-watering smog; instead, let’s look forward to picturesque flowers blooming underneath
our rainbow called “dream!”
