On April 19, Kyungnam University (KU) held a signing ceremony at Hanma Mirae Gwan with 40 organizations and companies, including Google Cloud Korea and Megazone Cloud, to advance a follow-up project on hyper-scale manufacturing AI. This AI technology uses large-scale manufacturing data to optimize processes and address industry challenges. Since 2023, KU has led research through its Global Joint Research Center for Hyper-Scale Manufacturing AI.
Over 300 people attended the event, including key figures such as Vice President for Academic Affairs Hong Chung-hyo, Governor of Gyeongnam Province Kim Myungjoo, Changwon Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, National Assembly Member Choi Hyung-du, and executives from Google Cloud Korea and Megazone Cloud. The participating institutions agreed to collaborate on developing a Large Action Model (LAM) that merges robotics with AI, and to promote Masan as the future site for the National AI Computing Center, scheduled to open in 2027 with a 2.5 trillion KRW investment.
As of 2023, Gyeongnam Province is home to 4,200 smart factories and is investing 22.7 billion KRW in hyper-scale AI services. The province also plans additional investments totaling 3.7 trillion KRW by 2031. Through this initiative, officials aim to position Gyeongnam as a global leader in autonomous AI manufacturing while enhancing KU’s reputation as a hub for attracting top talent.
