A ceremony celbrating the 40th anniversary and the designation of the National Memorial Day of the Busan-Masan Democratic Protests, was held at KU on October 16, 2019. The ceremony was attended by the heads of state and government, representatives from various sectors of society, bereaved families and democratic figures to welcome the designation of the National Memorial Day. This ceremony served as a catalyst for the whole nation to sympathize with the historical significance and the spirit of the democratic protests.
In commemoration of the event, a KBS commemorative concert for the 40th anniversary of the Busan-Masan Democratic Protests was held at KU under the title of ‘October’s Wind, 1979’. The concert was performed by several famous musicians in honor of the spirit of the Busan-Masan Democratic Protests. In addition, an international academic conference was held at Changjo Gwan on October 17, 2019. The purpose of the conference was to publicize the historical significance of the protests at that time.
