President Park Jae Kyu’s Welcoming Luncheon with the Changwon KC International Literature Awards’ Recipients

 On October 7 of 2022, Park Jae Kyu, President of Kyungnam University (KU), had a welcoming luncheon with the poets attending the 13th Changwon KC International Literature Award ceremony in L’abri restaurant, Seoul. The Changwon KC International Literature Awards, which was started in 2010 with Changwon City and marks its 13th anniversary this year, is aimed at selecting and awarding world-renowned poets, critics, and literary researchers. Past recipients of the Awards include Tracy K. Smith, Mouchard Claude, and Bei Dao who was the Awards’ first recipient.

 The luncheon was attended by KU President, Park Jae Kyu; Chairman of the University of North Korean Studies (UNKS), Kim Sun-hyang; Former President of the National Academy of Arts, Lee Keun-bae; Professor Emeritus of Korea University, Choi Dong-ho; Professor Emeritus of Hyupsung University, Kim Koo-seul; and President of the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LIT), Kwak Hyo-hwan.

 Among the invited foreign poets was Susumu Nakanishi, Professor Emeritus at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies, who is the Awards’ recipient of this year. Other invited poets include Zalán Tibor, Attila F. Balázs, Stefano Donno and Laura Garavaglia.

 President Park Jae Kyu said in his welcoming speech, “I sincerely congratulate awarded Susumu Nakanishi who suggested ‘Reiwa’ as the name of the new imperial era in Japan.” adding, “I hope the Changwon KC international Literature Awards, which connects domestic as well as world literature, will help contribute to Changwon’s growth as a global city.”
