Jung Eun-Sang, professor of school of Liberal Studies and director of university press of Kyungnam University received an Achievement Award at the 20th BBB Movement Anniversary Forum held at the International Conference Room of the National Library of Korea on April 26. BBB (Before Babel Brigade) Korea is an intellectual volunteer work organization initiated in Korea and it is being exported to other countries. It has been promoting the BBB Movement in the wake of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. This movement is meant to revitalize international tourism by increasing interpretation services while visiting Korea without language barriers. Volunteer language interpreters use their mobile phones to provide various language and cultural services which are required for foreigners. Professor Jung Eun-Sang has participated in the Russian language interpreting service for the past 20 years as a founding member of BBB Korea. In addition, he has contributed to breaking down language barriers for foreigners by working as a specially appointed servicer at Incheon International Airport. He said, “While working as an interpreter for the past 20 years, it was rather an opportunity for me to learn more and to grow.” He also added that “I will continue to do my best as an interpreter for foreigners visiting South Korea without losing my original intentions.”
